United Steelworkers 17th International Civil & Human Rights Conference

The United Steelworkers 17th International Civil & Human Rights Conference will convene the afternoon of Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at the Sheraton Birmingham Hotel in Birmingham, AL, and conclude the evening of Friday, October 23, 2015 after the banquet.

This conference is intended to educate, mobilize and energize building on our conference theme, Weaving a Single Garment – In the Fight for Justice.

All Civil & Human Rights Committee members are urged to participate, and there is no limit to the number of delegates a local union can send, nor is attendance restricted in any way.

Conference Registration

Participants are urged to pre-register for the Civil & Human Rights Conference icon and complete the online registration form.

The conference registration fee is $250.00 U.S. or $250.00 Canadian. This fee includes one ticket for the luncheon on Thursday, and one ticket to the Civil & Human Rights Banquet to be held Friday night.  Additional banquet dinner tickets may be purchased at the conference for $75.00 each.  After registering online, please print and send a copy of your local’s registration form along with a check made payable to “USW Secretary-Treasurer,” that totals the registration fee(s) for each participant and send it to the: USW Civil & Human Rights Department, 5 Gateway Center, 60 Boulevard of the Allies, 9th Floor, Pittsburgh, PA  15222. A copy of the completed registration form with the name of each registrant and the total payment due must be included.  A pre-registration form is enclosed for those who are not able to register online.  Registration forms may be faxed to 412-562-2495; please mail the original completed registration form and payment to the address above.

On-site registration will be available; however, the registration fee must be paid with a Local Union check or cash, (personal checks will not be accepted).  We will not be able to accept credit cards at the conference venue.

Hotel Information

A block of rooms has been set aside at the Sheraton Birmingham Hotel, 2101 Richard Arrington Jr. Blvd., Birmingham, AL at the rate of $119.00 per night, plus all applicable taxes and fees.  Please plan to arrive by the afternoon of Tuesday, October 20, and depart Saturday, October 24.  To make your hotel reservation, please book your room(s) online for the Sheraton hotel link by Clicking Here or call 800-325-3535 and specify that you are attending the USW Civil & Human Rights Conference.  The cutoff date to obtain the group rate is Saturday, September 19, 2015.

Airline Transportation

In cooperation with Professional Travel, Inc., we have made special arrangements for delegates to book air transportation to the Conference.   Airline reservations should be made by calling 877-499-1149 and selecting option “4” (Group Meetings).  When calling, please identify yourself as a Steelworker attending the Civil & Human Rights Conference, and provide Code# 101 85BH MUS.
