Sign Our Petition: Safe Refineries Save Lives

USW oil workers have been forced into an unfair labor strike against the oil industry. These brave sisters and brothers are fighting for safe workplaces and communities. The companies' bad faith bargaining, including refusal to bargain over mandatory subjects and undue delays in providing information, impeded bargaining and led to the strike.

You can help stand with our brothers and sisters by clicking here (usw.org/oilsafety) to sign our petition telling oil industry management and federal, state and local officials that we all want safe refineries. Safe workplaces don’t just protect workers, but also the communities where we live and work. Please support the USW oil workers in their efforts to secure a fair contract that will protect the health and safety of workers and communities!

The oil industry is the richest in the world, but their greed and their bad faith bargaining has stalled efforts to improve conditions in their workplaces. The industry has refused to address serious health and safety issues including:

  • the daily occurrence of fires, leaks, emissions, and explosions,
  • understaffing at refineries that forces workers to put in excessive overtime,
  • brutal and dangerous scheduling practices, and
  • unsafe reliance on outside contractors.

It’s time to get serious about the safe operation of these facilities and get the hard-working, highly-skilled members of the United Steelworkers back to work. Click here to sign the petition (usw.org/oilsafety).

The oil industry must stop violating the rights of their workers and come to the table in order to bargain a fair contract and end this unfair labor practice strike. Until they do so, join with us (hyperlink: usw.org/oilsafety) as we call on state and federal officials and our elected leaders to conduct serious safety investigations at our nation’s oil refineries and take all legal actions possible to protect the health and safety of refinery communities.
