USW Local 12-591 President Steve Garey and progressive talk show host Leslie Marshall this week discussed the unfair labor practice strike which occurred because of the oil companies’ failure to bargain in good faith and the urgent safety concerns that forced 3,800 oil workers to walk out on Feb. 1.
Local 12-591 staffs the Tesoro refinery in Anacortes, Wash., one of nine USW facilities that are currently on strike. In addition to being president of Local 12-591, Garey also represents oil workers in the Western U.S. on the USW’s rank-and-file Policy Committee.
