District 13 Holds New Officer’s Training

During the weeks of June 22nd and July 13th, new officer’s training was held for District 13 members in Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Houston, Texas; Catoosa, Oklahoma; and Hot Springs, Arkansas.  Approximately 435members from 84 locals were trained during this time.  Training topics included Local Union Leadership, Financial Officers, Trustees and Mid-Term Bargaining.

Director 13 Director Ruben Garza gave updates on the state of the District and what has been happening in the district since the beginning of the year.  For the good news, all of the locals called out on the Oil Strikes have been returned to work.  Meanwhile our sisters and brothers at Local 235A are still locked out by Sherwin Alumina.

In order to raise funds in support of our Women of Steel Program, 50/50 raffles were held at all of the trainings where we raised $1600.   WOS Coordinator Dianne Babin would like to thank everyone who participated but would like to give special recognition to Bobby Hollis from Local 13-423 in Port Arthur, Texas for donating his winnings back to the Program.

This was the first time the District used this format of holding trainings in each state.  All of the trainings were well attended and our members were grateful to have the training close to their areas.
