Honorable Mother Jones Award to Steffi Domike of Local 3657

Steff3On Saturday, September 13, 2014, Steffi Domike from USW Local 3657 received the Honorable Mother Jones Award from the Pennsylvania Labor History Society.  At the Pump House in Munhall, PA., President Gerard introduced Steffi’s work as an artist and organizer has connected people, their communities and their struggles. 

• In Women of Steel, 1985, reflected on Domike’s own experience working for United States Steel (USX, Clairton mill) and the half-hour video documentary launched her career in art and activism.

• The River Ran Red, 1992 – 1993, both a book and a film broadcast on WQED, complimented centennial commemoration events for the centennial of the 1892 Homestead Steel Strike.

• After receiving her Master of Fine Arts Degree (MFA) from Carnegie Mellon University in 1997, Domike co-produced the 2000 millennial Terminal Time, an interactive television experience that was performed from 1999-2001 around the world.

Steffi4She now works for the United Steelworkers (USW) to facilitate and support union members’ efforts to represent themselves at work and defend their contracts and has helped to create a national campaign against toxic toys (2007) as well as numerous local campaigns.
