District 7 Director, Jim Robinson

Jim Robinson joined Local 1010 in 1971 when he hired in at Inland Steel in East Chicago, Indiana. While working in the Basic Oxygen Furnace Department he was elected Safety Committeeman in 1973, and then served as Grievance Committeeman from 1976 to 1988. In 1988 he was appointed Local Union Arbitration Coordinator, with responsibility for all of the local's arbitration cases. In 1991 he was elected Chairman of the Grievance Committee.

In 1994 Jim was appointed to the staff of the International Union. He was promoted to Sub-district Director in 1996, and Assistant Director in 1999. While working for the International, Jim attended law school at Loyola University Chicago School of Law and is a member of the bar in both Indiana and Illinois.

In November of 2001 he was elected Director of District 7, which includes more than 100 local unions in Illinois and Indiana. He was re-elected by acclamation in 2005. Jim is Chairman of the Alcoa Negotiating Committee, Secretary of the Mittal Steel Negotiating Committee, and serves on the International Union’s Appeals Panel.
