Since November 28, 2011, Cooper Tire and Rubber Co. refused the union's offer to remain on the job while negotiations proceeded.

- December 06, 2011 USW Cites Trade Commission Vote to Keep Duties on Steel Plate From Korea, India, Indonesia; Revokes Orders on Japan, Italy Leo W. Gerard, president of the United Steelworkers (USW) today confirmed the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) voted 6-0 to continue tariffs on cut-to-length steel plate (CTLP) imports from Korea, India and Indonesia for another five years, while revoking the orders for plate from Japan and Italy.

- April 21, 2009 District 7 Director, Jim Robinson Jim Robinson, Director of USW District 7, has served the USW for nearly 40 years. He joined United Steelworkers Local 1010 in 1971 when he was hired to work at Inland Steel in East Chicago, Ind. and began work for the union almost immediately, getting elected in 1973 as safety committeeman while assigned to the basic oxygen furnace department.
