District 11 Women of Steel Win Best Local Entry

The United Steelworkers (USW) Women of Steel (WOS) committee from District 11 Local 11-418 won Best Local Entry at the 2012 Strawberry Festival Parade held in Cottage Grove, Minnesota on June 9, 2012.   The women entered a Rosie the Riveter float with the help of eighteen brothers and sisters they all made the day a great success including 11-418 retirees Sue Johnson and Sharon Young, Barb Alle from LU 2002 and Sandy Iverson from LU 11-717.

Hats off to our young “WOS In Training” volunteers Katelyn Kasel, Baily Baker and Tarin Baker, daughters of USW members.

Thanks to our WOS coordinator Cathy Warner and daughter Kat, Rapid Response Coordinator Bob Ryan and Ray Pierce, LU 6115, for their support and leading us by carrying the District flag.

A special thanks to LU 6115 for delivering the “Rosie” statue that was used as the focal point of the float and LU 2002 for donating the candy. Thanks again to everyone who participated in the parade from a soggy start to end, no spirits were dampened!  Be sure to check out the pictures of the event!
