Message from the Women of Steel Director
This area of the Steelworkers web site is dedicated to increasing working women's activism through the sharing of information and networking to impact issues affecting all working women and their families. Our union recognizes women's leadership development and involvement both inside and outside their place of work are shaping the labor force of the future.
Whether you are organized into a union or not - we hope you will find in this site both a help and inspiration. USW sisters, known as "Women of Steel", write many of the materials found here. Their stories reflect your concerns and feelings in many ways. Your input is important. Not just about this site but to develop agendas and programs that all working women want addressed.
Drop a comment to Ann Flener, director of Women of Steel about your concerns, questions and comments. You do not need to be a USW member to join with the "Women of Steel" in moving working women's agendas - so keep in touch and stop in often.
We provide a number of items that can be downloaded for your use in training sessions and to share with other women where you work. All are available for downloading.
The struggles for equal pay and equity in job advancement coupled with control over your hours of work are the same issues most women want to collectively address. This often means supporting sisters around the globe on these same concerns.
The Women's Resource Manual is a living document that continues to add chapters that will assist women develop skills and self-confidence that comes from learning. You will also find in the "Guides and Resource" section numerous fliers that are both informative and suitable for distribution at events. Check out the WOS Upcoming Events perhaps for any events close to your home.
Want to plan an event or action in your community? Look at the quarterly sections of Plan an Action Calendar . Want to know more about getting involved with a "Women of Steel" group in your community? Check the Women of Steel Contacts in your district and call or e-mail them.
